MISSION

UNC Young Democrats serves to organize, inform, and empower the campus community to drive progressive change in Chapel Hill, the state of North Carolina and across the United States.

Our History

UNC Young Democrats is the College Democrats chapter at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Founded in 1939, UNC YD has organized, informed, and empowered the campus community to drive progressive change in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and across the United States. Our chapter was originally called the “Young Democrat Club” and is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the nation. Since its founding, UNC Young Democrats has hosted numerous progressive speakers, including President John F. Kennedy and President Barack Obama. We are proud to count two-term UNC YD President Roy Cooper and NC Democratic Party Chair Wayne Goodwin among our notable alumni. In March 2017, we were honored to be named College Democrats of North Carolina Chapter of the Year.

Our Present

Today, our organization provides students with numerous ways to become more engaged and active in the political process, including opportunities in political lobbying, campaign internships, policy research, issue advocacy and more.

We host weekly general body meetings to organize political action, host panels, discuss current political events and plan for the future of UNC YD. All students are invited to attend.
